Just had a huge headache trying to downgrade a new 5517 to Windows XP.
I managed to get everything installed but NETWORK Controller shows up
in device manager with a yellow question mark.
Even though the LAN driver is installed and recognized, the LAN port
and the wireless card won't activate.
Anyone interested in collaborating?
I have the drivers the XP 32bit drivers for Audio, Video, Chipset/SM BUS, and LAN (not sure if it's wireless though).

Thanks for request and response, on Acer Support website, Acer Aspire 5517 Drivers For Win XP are not complete. But some of drivers are similar with 5516 drivers. Try this link to get the drivers:

The driver posted is for the LAN card. What I am really missing is the drivers for windows XP for the Wireless Card for Acer 5517-5997.
I will keep checking your site for updates.

Looks like the 5516 driver set is not an exact match for the 5517. Windows XP SP2 continues to ask for a "NETWORK CONTROLLER" driver in device manager. Anyone have any thoughts as to what is exactly trying to install? It seems the missing "Network Controller" prevents the laptop from accessing the network card and activating the wireless.
people.. please help me.. i have installed windows xp on a notebook acer aspire 5517-5997 and i have installed all drivers... but i cant install wireless lan... im trying days and days and i dont know what more i can do... can anyone help me ? the driver for 5516 dont works.. please heal me friend...

I would like to ask if you have a driver for my acer aspire laptops DVD writer, it's a matshita UJ870QJ, I cant find a driver for this device, currently cannot burn any DVDs and any burning program I use asks for an update in the driver. What should I do if in case there are no drivers for my burner. Thanks in advance.

I have an Acer Aspire L3600 which came with a preinstalled Vista Home Basic Premium.
Been reading through several fora where am experiencing similar problems as the unit wont let me install any software for one and reminds me of expiring software.
I have decided to redo the unit by erasing the HDD and installing WinXP Pro.
Firstly need drivers and a suitable boot disc and more importantly professional help on how to go about the whole process.
Grateful for any help.
